For 21 days you recycled more: here’s what happened

This April you came together, stepped up, and made the #PledgetoRecycle for Earth Month, and that’s just the beginning! You shared some amazing tips, and showed us how you worked toward your recycling goals.

But first, why should you recycle more?

As you may know, when you throw your rubbish away, it doesn’t disappear; the amount of waste produced in the world could fill 1 million Olympic-sized swimming every year - that’s around 2.1 billion tonnes of rubbish! Worse yet, 359 million tonnes of new, virgin plastic is produced - 60 times the weight of the Great Pyramid of Giza - while less than 9% is recycled.

These statistics and figures are only a slice of the sheer magnitude of our waste problem; it’s a no-brainer more needs to be done.

How can I recycle more?

Remember: small, daily actions add up! Recycling can sometimes seem like a minefield of different bins, packaging labels, and fancy buzzwords. So, we recommend first being sure of what your local council accepts and Recycle Now’s website is a great place to start.

What about the items local councils don’t accept? That’s where we step in! Whilst TerraCycle® offers Free Recycling Programmes for waste from your everyday life, our simple Zero Waste Box™ system allows you to recycle these items and more through its convenient, ready-to-go solution, under one roof.

These all-in-one recycling solutions are your answer to recycling pretty much everything. Go as specific as disposable masks and PPE, to the entire contents of your bathroom - there’s a Zero Waste Box™ for everyone. Unsure? Take our quiz to find your perfect solution or browse our list of bestsellers to see what other recyclers are using.

TerraCycle’s #PledgetoRecycle Pro Tips:

  • Make it easy for your household or business to take part by placing collection bins, Zero Waste Boxes or home made recycling bins wherever there’s a potential to collect waste, such as in the bathroom for personal care and beauty empties.
  • For flexible waste streams, try folding or rolling the materials together so that you can fit more in your Zero Waste Box.
  • Create your very own recycling posters to support the accepted waste poster on your Zero Waste Box. Make them fun and eye-catching so that people know what they can recycle and where.
  • Never tried Zero Waste Box™ before? Why not try an All-In-One or Kitchen Separation Zero Waste Box first. Once you’ve come to understand the common waste streams you collect, you can choose a more specific Zero Waste Box next time.

A Global Movement
